The Desert

The word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the desert.

Often we receive the idea that we can do something big when we are in the desert. I am curious to what your desert is now and what your definition of the desert means.

Many holy people today and in the past go to the desert to hear the word of God. The desert represented a place away from people, limited water and food, hot and uncomfortable. There is also something very magical about the desert. It’s quiet, it’s simplified, it’s slower.

Slowing the mind or being more deliberate can give perspective to an issue. What is a goal that you have? How are you planning to reach this goal? Internal reflection can help you to make the perfect plans, however, we live in the city. How do we take these wonderful plans and apply them to the bustle of our lives? Perhaps you lose focus, or give up on well intentions.

Let’s take weight loss as an example. Many of my clients want to lose 25-50 pounds. They know how to do it. As a weight loss coach, I want my client to lose the weight and learn the skill and confidence that they will not gain it back. The skill is learned in the moments when we can make the plan (time in the desert) and then put it into practice (our time in the city).

When we can follow through when there is so much distractions, internally and externally, that is where the magic happens. That is where the confidence is created. Choose one thing, what is one thing that will get you to your goal. What is the time you have the most difficulty doing that thing? Knowing what you know, how will you plan to do that thing when you approach that difficult time?

If you have trouble articulating this for yourself, contact me, I offer a free discovery session. If you have never worked with a coach, I encourage you to contact me. Let’s get you out of the desert and into your life.
